Hello All,
Here is some of the draft wording and guidelines discussed on Thursday.
They do need some further drafting that take in account the intent of
the committee.
i) Strings must not be confusingly similar to an existing top level
domain
[Guideline: taking into account the context in which it will be used by
the relevant publics and in light of relevant registration policies]
ii) Strings should not infringe the existing legal rights of others
consistent with international law, recognising that the applicant may
have rights or legitimate interests in respect of the string
[Guideline - need to be careful to allow registration of generic words]
iii) Strings should not cause any technical instability
iv) Strings should not be a Reserved Word
v) Strings should not be contrary to generally accepted legal norms
relating to morality or public order.
[Guideline - that we acknowledge that an applicant will be bound by the
laws of the country where they are located, and an applicant may be
bound by another country that has jurisdiction over them]
Regards,
Bruce Tonkin
