Registry Operators Annual Fee (Draft Registry Agreement, Article 6 Fees,
Section 6.1)

 

Many members from different sectors of the ICANN community have commented
negatively at the ICANN Cairo meeting public forum regarding the proposal to
charge an annual fee of USD 75,000 or transaction fee (whichever is the
greater).

 

The ICANN board should be aware that imposing such a large fee on new,
smaller or medium size registries will ultimately play out through higher
registration fees being passed on to registrants to enable a registry to
meet ICANN staff's self-determined fee schedule.  

 

Reconsideration should be given to establishing a variable registry
operator's fee, e.g., based on an amount for each name registered and paid
for, as it is in current TLD operator contracts.
