Implement Price Controls
Price controls are necessary to prevent exploitation by registries. Though newly introduced gTLDs would be limited in their ability to use exploitative pricing due to lack of widespread use, existing gTLDs — notably Verisign's .com and .net — which have existing businesses dependent on consistent pricing, would be positioned to systematically erode not only the online business landscape but also the overall diversity and quality of the internet. If price controls are not adopted, then the limitation to extend registration by a maximum of ten years should be lifted to allow existing businesses to maintain their presence for future generations without being subject to exploitative, potentially terminal pricing changes. Please consider implementing price controls on all new gTLD registries. Regards, Brendan Regan |
