The GNSO council members, the GAC representatives and ICANN staff have done
tremendous work on a very complex matter, by their knowledge, their work
enthusiasm and by incorporating numerous other parties and stakeholders.

We think that the GNSO process, the final report and the working group
reports are a reasonable basis to give potential TLD applicants trust and
confidence that their application will be processed in a fair and
transparent way, far away from the beauty contest in previous TLD rounds.

We thank the GNSO that it has incorporated a lot of thoughts and written
comments from the dotBERLIN team in the final GNSO report. The real case
.berlin itself has lead to plenty of considerations, since .berlin was from
the beginning of the GNSO PDP process the only visible new TLD initiative,
which contributed at many GNSO virtual and physical meetings around the
globe.

.berlin is also a case by which the GNSO became a glimpse which topics might
come up by the introduction of GeoTLDs in the future. Especially other
cityTLD and GeoTLD applicants will profit a lot from this experience.

I also would like to refer to the fact that the current new TLD process has
already roused a substantial number of potential candidates for new TLDs.
But many candidates will not be ready for applying at the application window
which was announced for the beginning of 2008. Not disappointing them by
another 4 years desert ICANN should asap announce when it plans to proceed
with the next regular round but one.

Dirk Krischenowski
Founder and CEO of the .berlin initiative
