A Proper Perspective on .XXX

To Whom It May Concern:

It is important to keep a proper perspective on the relevance of .XXX to the
Internet, parents and legislators. Today, pornography (in all of its forms)
pervades the Internet (on different many top-level domains) in large measure
because ICANN has not approved ICM Registry's application to manage the .XXX
TLD. It is our view that having a space on the Internet that is dedicated
to this particular community would enable regulators to establish stricter
guidelines on such content and allow for monitoring violations of those
guidelines; both of which would lead to a much 'cleaner' and safer Internet
for today's users and those in the future. Further, with legislation that
is lacking today in place, it would create a tool for parents to block such
content from their children, whereas in today's environment, lacking such a
TLD, it is impossible to do so. These are just a few examples of the many
benefits .XXX would bring to the Internet.

Taken from another perspective, not allowing a .XXX TLD is tantamount to
agreeing that the status quo (which means porn popping up on the least
likely, least appropriate domain names) is fine and the global community
agrees to this insidious reality. I, for one, do not agree that the status
quo on the way pornography is distributed over the Internet is okay. And it
is for this reason I am adding my voice to this important debate.

For these reasons, we encourage the ICANN Board to approve .XXX.

Respectfully,

Ronald N. Andruff
