Dear ICANN,
Please do not approve the contract for a dot-xxx top-level domain.
While we can all see the use of being able easily to easily filter out
pornographic material while online the creation of a domain dedicated to it
would have disastrous results. The world is not as clear cut as "pornographic"
and "not", there are plenty of websites which feature adult themes but are not
based around pornography, and it is these sites which would suffer. Many
websites would be unfairly lumped in with the dot-xxx domain and instantly face
a taboo associated with it, not to mention an increased inflow of users looking
for adult materials in the wrong place. If a piece of artwork happens to
contain a nipple, is it worthy of dot-xxx? If an online forum allows members
to post pictures without fear of censorship should they be subjected to this
form of censure? I think not.
