While the IDN Variant Issues Project sounds like a reasonable initiative,
the danger looms that the solution of real and urgent problems be further
postponed by the discussion of contrived academic issues. Some urgent
variant problems were already identified and discussed  as early as the
winter ICANN meeting of 2005 in Vancouver, see:

One hopes that the upcoming project undertakes a prioritization of issues in
terms of urgency and user need.
