One of the great blessings to the entire scope of Internet businesses and
services has been the restraint by governments not to tax the Internet. Now
this variable pricing program seems nothing less than a massive taxation on
businesses by the registries. Taken to the extreme this program could
conceivably wipe out businesses that have been so far protected from taxation
on the Internet. This sounds like a terrible idea to me. Dot --- registries may
need income to survive, and that's appropriate. The concept of variable
pricing, however, doesn't seem representative of reasonable fees for businesses
to hold and maintain their registered names over time. Let's rethink this and
back off from such a 'greedy' idea.
