Draft 2 of Final Report [RE: [jig] REMINDER / JIG WG - 23 November 2010 @ 1200 UTC]
Hi Everyone, A gentle reminder for our scheduled meeting later today (see further below for details) And as discussed in our last meeting, please find attached a second draft of the Final Report on Single Character IDN TLDs. The changes incorporated included: 1. Addition of explanation of the process ahead (i.e. public comments -> finalization of final report -> sent to respective councils for consideration) 2. Rearrangement of structure of document (such that the flow of the document starts from the identification of the policy aspects, the discussion and incorporation of public comments for the initial report and then the recommendations) 3. Added recommendations relevant for IDN ccTLDs (including a new section on recommended edits to the Final Implementation Plan for IDN ccTLD Fast Track Process) 4. Updated the recommended changes for the New gTLD Application Guidebook to the latest version 5. Changed the recommendation regarding alphabetic vs. non-alphabetic script. On point 5, the new recommendation is based on the discussion in our last meeting is to avoid disallowing alphabetic script IDN TLDs. However, as also explained, there are concerns from the technical community for alphabetic script IDN TLDs especially errors from end-users relevant to keyboard layouts. Therefore the suggestion is as follows: =========================== Review of single-character IDN strings — In addition to the above reviews, an applied-for IDN ccTLD string that is a single character IDN string is reviewed by the [Panel] for visual similarity to: a) Any one-character label in ASCII, and b) Any possible two-character ASCII combination. An applied-for TLD string that is found to be too similar to a) or b) above will not pass this review. In addition to visual similarity, for Single-character IDN strings in alphabetic scripts, the [Panel] may take into consideration other aspects of confusability in their assessment, such as the likelihood of user slip with relevance to keyboard layouts. =========================== Sarmad, please see if the above works for you. Edmon PS. The attached is a red-lined version... It may be easier to view the document by accepting all changes or viewing the final without markup.
