I am having trouble connecting to the conference bridge. The operator says that 
I can only call in through a UK number...

As you may have noted the Interim Report of the  on Universal Acceptance of IDN 
TLD’s is up for public comment:

Unfortunately ( due to connectivity problems at my end), the Report was not 
announced before the X-mass break as discussed.
