RE: Employ Media Proposed TLD Charter Amendment
Dear Chairman Dengate Thrush and Members of the ICANN Board:
I write on behalf of Hedge Fund and Private Equity Resource Center LLC and
respectfully request you reject Employ Media's request for authority to permit
second level registration of addresses that do not reflect an employer's name
in the .jobs top level domain (TLD).
I believe direct employers (particularly smaller firms like mine) would likely
be unfairly and adversely affected if this request is approved. As a result, I
strongly encourage you to deny or delay the proposed unilateral expansion of
the .jobs domain to encompass regional and industry-specific second-level
registrations pending a comprehensive impact analysis.
Employ Media's proposal will greatly and inappropriately extend the
application of the TLD beyond its approved users--direct employers--to
encompass online search and staffing organizations by encouraging confusing
geocentric (i.e.,NewYorkCity.jobs,) and occupation specific (i..e,
hedgefund.jobs) web sites. ICANN approval of this request would violate both
the spirit and the letter of the existing charter holder's contract. Moreover
it will no doubt substantially undermine direct online recruitment efforts of
firms in my industry by confusing job seekers and thus making employment
searches more cumbersome, time consuming and far less effective--while creating
an initially misleading impression of greater clarity and particularity .
Sincerely,
Paul A. Seader
