My comments to the White Paper on ICANN meetings:
1 Two Meetings a Year are enough
Heading for two ICANN meetings a year around the globe is enough, especially
when an annual IGF meeting will be on the agenda too. But smaller meetings
in the regions are a good idea to catch more attention on local topics.
2 Frequently updated and transparent Schedule
Printed schedules are a good guideline but a lot of meetings change time and
location during the ICANN meeting week. Also a lot of small meetings do not
appear on the printed schedule. My suggestion is to have a central time
table on a big screen like on an airport where all meetings are listed and
frequently updated.
3 Platforms for new TLD Applicants
Since new TLDs will become a growing business to ICANN increased
possibilities for participation and presentation are needed. Fixed part of
the Open Forum should be a catwalk for new TLD applicants. This would raise
attention for them and gives possibilities for interaction with the
attendees.
4 Posters and Poster Sessions
Nearly all big congresses have options for participants to present
interesting projects to a larger audience at a poster exhibition and at
poster sessions. It's an easy to facilitate item.
5 Visible ICANN Staff
Sometimes it's hard to catch certain ICANN staff members during the meeting
week, some of the staff seems to be a phantom during most of the time,
especially at night. Let's have a drink together.
