Comments on MuseDoma Renewal Proposal
Musedoma contends in their proposal that it is inappropriate to require dotMuseum registrars to acquire full accreditation as an ICANN Registrar. ICANN's Registrar Accreditation policy was implemented not only to address specific competitive concerns but also to ensure the basic stability and security of the registration system by implementing specific operational, financial and technical standards that must be met by all registrars. Waiving this policy for specific registrars, regardless of the TLD in question, will significantly undermine the overall integrity of the domain name registration and resolution system. Despite MuseDoma's concerns, this larger context needs to be taken into account. In order to ensure that the existing ICANN Registrar Accreditation policy is still meaningful and broadly applicable, it may be worthwhile undertaking a review of this cornerstone policy with the specific goal of ensuring that the needs of sTLD registries are appropriately taken into account.
