In this day and age, Copyright holders are demanding the capabilities to
enforce
copyrights in manners that are not in the public interest. While terms, etc.
for
enforcing the copyrights are primarily in the hands of government bodies -
namely Congress in the United States, ICANN should not allow them to garner
control over the domains of companies, individuals, and organizations without
sufficient court requirement to do so. That is, Copyright holders should only
be
able to break through the privacy shields with a court order and nothing less,
and only be able to do so for specific legal purposes. They should not be able
to garner control of domains in any manner as that would effectively hold the
domain owner hostage to the whims of the Copyright holders.
Please stand firm and continue requiring the Privacy Shields on the .NET TLDs
as
these have uses far beyond the rights or needs of Copyright holders, including
essential for the security of some (e.g. PJ at Groklaw.net).
