iCann are complicit in the process whereby domain names which actually are peoples family names (i.e. www.george_morton.com) can be bought and kept for resale, preventing the original owner regaining their own former site back unless a hefty sum is paid.

My own site, which I had or years, was bought from under me as I was overseas and didn't get the renewal notices. As soon as the period of grace had elapsed (1 month!!!) a faceless company purchased my site name and is now warehousing it. I have been told I can buy it back for thousands of dollars.

Where is the watchdog? An owned website should not be available for purchase just because the original owner has not renewed it within a short time. The original owner should have the right of furst refusal for a YEAR minimum before there name can be purchased by some unscrupulous buyer. The situation stinks.
