meant to be used as a first time intro to prospective members.

*INTRODUCTION TO NPOC, THE NEW ICANN CONSTITUENCY*

The Notforprofit Operational Concerns Constituency (NPOC) is a brand new
home for NGOs wishing to engage in internet governance issues of policy and
operations. See http://npoc.org/home.html .

NPOC members rely on the Internet and Domain Name System (DNS) policies to
provide valuable services to their communities.

The purpose of the NPOC is to represent the operational concerns related to
service delivery of not-for-profit and non-governmental organizations who
are domain registrants in the DNS.

NPOC  focuses on the impact of DNS policies and their effects on the
operational readiness and implementation of non-commercial missions and
objectives.

NPOC members engage the ICANN community on how proposed and existing
policies and initiatives may uniquely impact the operations of
not-for-profit and non-governmental organizations and the delivery of their
mission-related services.  Such not-for-profit and non-governmental
organizational perspectives on operational concerns include domain name
registration, expansion of the DNS, fraud and abuse, using the DNS to
provide and collect information and serve their members and communities.

The operational concerns described above drive how NPOC members actively
manage their infrastructure, create and improve internal processes and
controls, manage risk, and respond to and respect the welfare of the
communities they represent.

NPOC is part of the Non-Commercial Stakeholders' Group of the Internet
Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers. NPOC was approved by the ICANN
Board on June 24th, 2011 at its 41st Meeting in Singapore.

Civil society needs to become as deeply involved in ICANN and internet
governance as governments and the private sector.

To become truly global, NPOC is dedicated to increase its members located
in Africa. Already two NGOs from the Gambia have become members: The
Association of NGOs (TANGO) and YMCA of The Gambia.

There are 52 more African countries where NPOC seeks members.

Membership access is free for the rest of 2012 and to become a member your
organization must have registered a domain name. You will be asked to
provide proof of your Not-for-profit status and you must submit an
application form you can find at:
