Interesting and unique way to protect yourself against expected huge tld renewal bills
Make a list of all your org (or biz info) names that get direct navigation traffic and/or make some money. File for a very low cost state (not federal) trademark on all those names, ie. trademark yourdomainname dot org etc. No matter what the name is it can not be already trademarked in the state if you also TM the tld extension, which site only you run and own of course. State trademarks are amazingly simple to file and very low-cost in most states. Typically in the low to mid xx range vs high cost, much paperwork, and tough to get federal trademarks. A number of states only charge low $xx. Then when the central registry sends you a big renewal bill because your name gets traffic and is well known simply file a lawsuit against them for trying to profit from your registered trademark, which suit you could easily win. Even if you file it in your District Federal Court it will only cost you a couple hundred $ to sue pro-se, and far less as a pro-se in your local court. Thanks, Trader Dave . |
