Hello All,
There seems to be some confusion on what is required in a statement of
"interest".
Interest here is intended to mean "Financial Interest". Thus we are
not looking for a resume/CV of degrees, past activities, hobbies etc.
I recommend that members of the committee review the Board Conflict of
Interest policy available at:
http://www.icann.org/committees/coi/coi-policy-04mar99.htm
Specifically:
"Financial Interest. A person has a "financial interest" if the person
has, directly or indirectly, through business, investment or family:
(a) An existing or potential ownership or investment interest in any
entity with which the Corporation has a transaction, contract, or other
arrangement, or
(b) A compensation arrangement with the Corporation or with any entity
or individual with which the Corporation has a transaction, contract, or
other arrangement, or
(c) An existing or potential ownership or investment interest in, or
compensation arrangement with, any entity or individual with which the
Corporation is negotiating a transaction, contract, or other
arrangement, or
(d) An existing or potential ownership or investment interest in, or
compensation arrangement with, any entity whose business or operation
has been or will be directly affected by a decision or action of the
Corporation. "
In addition it would be appropriate for any Council member that is being
compensated financially to lobby for a particular policy outcome in the
GNSO to declare this at the time of discussing a potential policy.
Having a financial interest does not preclude a member of the task force
from participating or voting on any issue.
Regards,
Bruce Tonkin
