Distinguishing between privacy and proxy
I find that a serious flaw in the study misrepresented many privacy services as proxy. Take an example of domains registered by using RespectMyPrivacy.com, this is a clear privacy service as per definition used in the study; the domain is *owned* by the person, and only the information of that service is being entered. After that it is still possible to contact the owner, as the service will forward all the correspondance which is not clearly classified as spam. This service non-the-less would be misclassified as proxy because judging from the WhoIs record alone it is not possible to distinguish one registrant from another. - Volodya -- http://freedom.libsyn.com/ Echo of Freedom, Radical Podcast "None of us are free until all of us are free." ~ Mihail Bakunin |
