On behalf of the Registries Stakeholder Group (RySG), the following is a
statement of the Stakeholder Group on the Proposed Revised Process for Handling
Requests for Removal of Cross-Ownership Restrictions on Operators of Existing
TLDs. This statement has the support of a supermajority of the members of the
Stakeholder Group.
The RySG agrees that, in light of the decision to permit Cross-Ownership in new
gTLDs, a clear process is certainly required to ensure that existing TLDs can
operate on a level playing field with new entrants.
We therefore welcome the publication of the Proposed Revised Process for
Handling Requests for Removal of Cross-Ownership Restrictions and support the
Revised Process as published.
In order to enable business and operational planning as well as future
execution, the RySG would like to see this change implemented as soon as
possible, so that the Revised Process for Handling Requests for Removal of
Cross-Ownership Restrictions can then be relied upon by any RySG members who
are considering this option.
Respectfully submitted,
David W. Maher
Chair, Registries Stakeholder Group
Senior Vice President – Law & Policy
