Whilst ARI Registry Services recognise the concerns raised by the SSAC in
relation to dotless domains, ARI Registry Services believe that a greater
effort should be made to identify and explore solutions to the concerns raised
prior to prohibiting the use of dotless domains.
Rationale: the SSAC report presents a range of problems associated with the use
of dotless domains and subsequently recommends their prohibition. The SSAC
report fails to challenge the identified problems by presenting possible
solutions for consideration by the community.
The problems identified by the SSAC are application, and not protocol, related.
They do not raise security concerns but may arguably raise stability concerns
owing to the lack of awareness regarding the utilization of dotless domains.
Such problems may be addressed by educating applicants – a somewhat reasonably
ask given that there are a defined number of applicants.
Kind regards,
