ICANN efficiency trumps UN

I have been watching the UN's interest in the Internet for some time. I
think its amusing that some of the posters here think the Internet would
be better off if it was run by the UN. Perhaps that will happen and you
will see if that's true. The UN is really good at spending money. If you
think ICANN's fees are high, just wait for the UN to get hold of it.
Fees would double or triple as the UN created committees and task
forces. Money would go to diplomats putting on billion-dollar
conferences- just like the one they are finishing up in Tunis. WSIS had
to cost an enormous amount of money. Where do you think they will get
that money? From you. Registrars, registries and Internet users. That's
the future of the Internet unless ICANN gets its house in order, and
that includes solving its disputes with companies such as Verisign.

Sincerely,

Mike Sax, President, Sax Software, Eugene, Oregon
