Support to INTA motion No 2

Dear Sirs,

 

We are a law firm advising client on Intellectual Property matters, namely
on the registration of Intellectual Property Rights as well as on the
maintenance and on the defence of these rights.

 

We would like to bring our full support to the motion of INTA requesting
that the ICANN Whois data policy remain unchanged until such time that a
complete and objective survey on the legitimate abuses and uses of Whois
data will be completed.

 

Such requirement for transparency is in our opinion an essential element to
the sound development of the Internet as it brings an essential contribution
to the principle of good faith in trade.

 

We use the whois data in order to identify infringers of our client?s
trademark rights, sellers of counterfeit goods and cyber squatters of our
client?s domain names. This resource is vital to intellectual property
rights enforcement and to transparent cybertrade. 

 

For these reasons, we favour and strongly support the INTA Motion, we
disapprove Motions 1 and strongly disapprove Motion 3 proposed by ICANN.
