.xxx domain opposition

I am writing to you to voice my opposition to the .xxx domain extension. I
run NationalNet which is the largest web host in the adult industry. I am
concerned about many things regarding this TLD.

1. I think it would create a "ghetto environment" making the adult industry
a much easier target.

2. I was in a seminar where Stuart Lawley all but spit on the adult
webmasters in attendance when he stated that "he was not and never would be
part of the adult industry". This is NOT a person with the best interests
of the adult industry in mind.

3. The costs of this TLD would be overwhelming to many webmasters who have
100's of domains that they would need to protect.

4. The issues regarding who would get the .xxx if one person had the .com
and another had the .net were not clear at all.

5. There are far too many ambiguities in the statements of Mr. Lawley and I
cannot help but feel that this is a pure money grab for his organization.

6. I feel it would only be a matter of time before the US made this TLD
mandatory, thus creating an unbalanced playing field and moving numerous
webmasters AND their money offshore. It has been estimated that the online
adult industry is a 12 billion dollar business.

After listening to Mr. Lawley speak at the Xbiz show, it is apparent that
there are many things that have not been properly thought out, and one of my
largest concerns were some of the contradictory statements he made.

Regards,

Bill VanVorst
