Opposition to .xxx domain

Dear ICANN,

As a proud member of the adult entertainment industry, our group of companies 
vehemently opposes the creation of a .xxx domain.

We, along with our industry colleagues, have spent millions of dollars creating 
our content, brands and networks. Re-building our sites and viewership under a 
new domain would cause all of us undue hardship, and unjust losses.

A .xxx domain would be an injustice to an entire industry, and a penalty to 
organizations, companies, websites, producers and entertainers who are 
committed to legal adult entertainment.

Beyond the creation of an online ghetto, the risk of heavy censorship, and the 
abolition of free speech, a .xxx domain is a ruse by one individual - an idea 
through which one man stands to acquire instant and massive wealth, and 
guaranteed income long past his personal life span.

If there is a problem with online pornography being accessible to children and 
others not interested in this form of entertainment, then those should be the 
issues left to address. Targeting legitimate producers and content creators, 
and destroying their online homes is neither the answer, nor a long term 
solution. Furthermore, a separate registry can’t guarantee a space without 
spam, viruses and credit card thieves.

We believe that the Internet in general could use new regulations – sites such 
as eBay and Craigslist consistently target everyday surfers with scams and 
hoaxes – there should be a holistic approach to your concerns, and not a direct 
target being placed on a specific segment of the online population.

We hope you are hearing our voices loud and clear: we oppose the creation of a 
.xxx domain.
