Simply put, the establishment of .xxx is not being used to benefit the adult
community, but by the contrary to pigeonhole the adult community for
purposes of FIGHTING the adult community. Imagine if an extension .religion
was formed and the inevitability that all religious content on the internet
would have to be put on a .religion domain/site and that it could then be
persecuted against easily and at will. There would never be ANY discussion
of such an extension because it would be universally seen as foul, likely
even by many of the non-religious. The only difference here is that despite
the immense size of the adult industry and its pioneering of online
commerce, many people publicly detest the industry despite privately
participating in it (see the politicians lately "busted" for looking at
pornographic content). There is a significant chance that many of the
people in favor of this extension are secretly in enjoyment of pornographic
content and are taking a purely hypocritical stance.

As it is, there is a clear vast majority opposed to this extension, and if
ICANN's role is for the greater good vs. simply going after another
short-term money-grabbing extension, you will look more seriously at this
and realize this extension simply cannot be approved due to the negative
nature in which it will be used.
