Attn: The Honrable Vint Cerf
and Colleagues. Dear Sir,
I am writing in support of new.net, an alternative domain
registrar. Over the last six weeks, new.net has proven that it possesses the ability
to effectively manage and operate a registry. While you initially incorrectly described
new.net as a "cute trick", new.net is not a trick at all. Rather, new.net is an ingenious
new system, dedicated to alleviateing crowding and the creation of a naming centric
internet.
With this in mind, Icann should expeditiously enter into
negotiations with new.net to formalize and ratify their registry as an official Icann
root. Failure to do so may force netizens to choose between Icann and New.net and
lead to tremendous confusion. Given Icann's reputation and slowness to introduce
new tlds, more netizens will probably follow the four ISPs and forty million users
who already access new.net's domains.
