Saying that they are committed to the IP community, Afilias pretends to be the guardian
of intellectual property owners, while in fact offering the so-called sunrise period
only to the Trade/Service mark holders. Is the Trade/Service mark the only kind
or form of intellectual property? Is there any ground, legal or otherwise, on which
Afilias' preference for only TM/SM holders and discrimination against those with
other forms or kinds of intellectual property can be justified?
Is this just and
equitable?
How about those dot INFO domain names registered for the first time
in the world, well before ICANN's decision on the new gTLDs and the Afilias' coming
on the stage?
If the so-called sunrise is ever to be offered to the IP community,
as I see it, all those with some rights to the various kinds or forms of IP will
have to be given the same and equal opportunity to compete with each other in the
first round of registration.
