Yes, thank you Dave - I did know. Have looked into trademarks since the end of 1999. They all have rules on what is acceptable. The rule quoted seems to hold true for all. e.g. Computer company cannot claim trademark to word 'computer' - Apple Computers has to disclaim 'computer'. But, as you say, some rules are inconsistent. It is another reason why we need name.class.COUNTRY.reg
