Amazon are wrong in that assumption - that is abuse of trademark.

For a start, it is against unfair competition laws.

It would be a horrible precedent if it were allowed to stand - I agree with 100% you there.

I have already registered my contempt for big business abusing their trademark rights.

Perhaps the AMAZON trademark from the year 1904, should use UDRP to get the dot COM from them.

They have prior rights to the dot COM name:
