It is interesting to compare trademark claims made to Afilias against the REAL marks
as registered and approved by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office:Mediterranean.info
was issued by Afilias per claim of U.S Trademark number 1165091. That serial
number resolves to the mark "OREIA-T4," a cancelled mark.
BatonRouge.info was issued
by Afilias per claim of U.S. Trademark number 1169719. That serial number resolves
to the mark "COST."
Neither sounds like "mediterranean" or "batonrouge."
There a number of other such results:
Home.info was issued by Afilias per claim
of U.S. Trademark number 1597351. That serial number actually resolves to the
mark "Best Little Core House in America."
This must be a good mark,
because the trademark serial number given in order to acquire books.info, house.info
and university.info all resolve to "Best Little Core House in America."
Lastly,
poor Lois Yee (surely an innocent victim). Her name, a registered trademark
under serial number 1253498, was used to justify the assignment by Afilias of fuck.info,
gay.info, girls.info, hotel.info, jerk.info and train.info (I've tried to find a
common thread in these, but alas have failed).
