410 explains ICANN/Afilias Sunrise Period best:

"This is ICANN's way of testing for "Proof of Concept."

Why should they have used logic and forethought when they can set a process up for total failure, blame others and delay further rounds in TLDs."

I will say it again - Sunrise is propaganda:

Ask any of them (ICANN, WIPO, US DoC, even Afilias) to deny this:

THOUSANDs of new open TLDs will not solve any problem - even if every one has 'Sunrise Period'.

e.g. Thousands of trademarks using word 'Apple' have no guarantee of being able to use name.

Apple computers will still protect and make claim to every Apple.[anything] - even though they share word with 727 others in the USA alone (plus all those in 200+ countries).

It also will not solve 'consumer confusion', 'trademark conflict' or stop anybody 'passing off'.

They just wish to abuse trademark powers for 'unfair competition' and also, by abridging your use of these words, violate your First Amendment rights.

No lawyer or official has got logical response to these charges - they are cowards.

They cannot fight the truth - so they take the fifth.
