The PBX phone exchange configured itself to have a real good name.

Not rubbish name - like .aero .info .crappy

There are likely to be only a few as good.

This identity is its most important asset.

IMO this identity was stolen.

I agree 100%, ICANN should be managing the official root.

But - it is ICANNs fault we are in this mess.

What the should be doing is setting up restricted TLDs for trademarks.

That would give us, to quote Paul Mockapetris (creator of Domain Name System), "A directory system for the Internet that wouldn’t be controlled by the politicians, lawyers and bureaucrats."

It would free system from these corrupt people.

To quote attorney, "The basic tenet of trademark law is to protect consumers and trademark owners from confusion in the marketplace".

If they gave a jot about tenet of trademark law or the First Amendment, they would introduce the solution.
