I notice you have "Cat" as part of your handle. How do you feel about the fact
that the Caterpillar tractor company has trademark rights to the word "cat" and thus
got first shot at registering "cat.info" -- letting them trump anybody using the
word in any other sense, such as for a site about felines, or by you for your personal
site. Similarly, "dog.info" got taken by a nail polish company. Is it
really fair that trademarks give that sort of pre-emptive right over all other possible
users? Apparently the corporate fatcats think so... both Amazon.com and Sun
Microsystems have already sent threatening letters regarding the .biz rollout, because
they didn't get automatic rights to such names as amazon.biz and sun.biz -- but what
about others who might want to use those addresses for sites about a famous river
or about the star the Earth revolves around? Sun also claims rights to "Enterprise",
but that's also the Star Trek starship, as well as a rent-a-car company.
