"The second que will generate little or no revenues for Afilias. By postponing the
deadline for the first que afilias can keep registrants bidding and competing for
the few good names remaining. The longer the competition for these names continues
the more money Afilias will make."Afilias makes money from wholesale registration
fees paid by the registrars. And Afilias makes no money from applications that
do not result in successful registrations.
The registrars make profit only from
actual registrations. Their receipts of 2 or 4 dollars per application only
covers their costs of processing and submitting the applications and then notifying
the applicants and then keeping track of all the applications whether the registrations
are successful or not.
