TLDs serve a basic purpose and that is mental indexing,
I agree that everybody is suffering from a severe case of over-saturation and that
is exactly why INFO will fly and BIZ is going no where. By far the widest use of
the Internet as a whole revolves around searches of all kinds. Before INFO you did
one of three things: 1. Guessed a name/destination (not very efficient) 2.
Used a Search Engine (much better but still requires more filtering) 3. Got referred
to a link (word of mouth or some effective/expensive advertising). In
the future (provided the perception is favorable) people should potentially type
the-desired-topic.INFO and then use a search engine as an alternative. For what
it's worth, here is a prediction: big indexers and search portals like the Yahoos
of this world will have to gobble up hundreds of INFO names in order to get a lock
on what could amount to be their biggest potential threat to date. Somewhere someone
will figure out that if you create a certain standard for INFO sites and create a
network of those you could potentially create the largest most enduring destination
on the web. Aggregation will be the key and if those guys haven't realized this yet
in a few months this will become the "party line" Now before you get all stary
eyed with $$$ signs remember the rules have changed and the days of the 6 figure
domain name are long gone, but that's an entirely different topic.
