Afilias dot info debacle:The dot info registry is (according
to itself Afilias) NOT yet COMPLETE.
Not only did they crash, but they crashed
on a system that isn't even
complete!
ICANNs position and authority is in terrible
danger. Some Directors,
who where leading the process and do not intervene now,
simply ought
to resign.
Details on that mess:
Mr. A. registered a .info name
today. The registrar defaulted to their
name servers and sent him a password so
that he could change it to
his.
The page says: "Sorry, the domain you have entered
is a new extension
and the modification interface for this extension is still
in
development."
A phone call yeilded the explanation, "Sorry, but Afilias
doesn't yet
have the ability for us to send nameserver updates. They say it'll
be
another MONTH or so until they're done with that part of their
registry."
This
is serious. In case it's not obvious, here's what this means:
AFILIAS'S REGISTRY
ISN'T COMPLETE. Not only did they
crash, but they crashed on a system that isn't
even complete!
