Logic dictates that Afilias and its gang will make a lot more money by offering lottery tickets (ala .biz) for the coveted names. I'm guessing they are keeping their options wide open. If .biz survives the lawsuits, then Afilias will most likely go that route. Holding an outright auction is way too risky and will draw a ton of renewed criticism that they can do without. If they follow .biz at least they can say "don't blame us, they did it first" My best guestimate is that this big event whatever it is won't likely happen before next summer. My biggest concern is that Afilias will hold back on their big marketing push until then.
