speculators going after a finite list of domain names in a new TLD (that probably totals less than 100,000 in today's aftermarket climate) does not constitute an ongoing trend that is being cited.  Unless catastrophic, market caps do not take major hits based upon actions that are considered to be one time occurrences.

It is more the case that content is being expected to support the new TLD's thus further motivating the market place to participate through the course of time (a revenue trend that is away from com/net/org).
