For the life of me, I can't understand why someone would
risk so much money to obviously register a name where they don't own a TM. It's just
too risky.First of all, you can be sure that people (like us) will check
up on them (which might explain why diabetes.info and medical.info has had subsequent
challengers). Plus, a friend of mine (an IP lawyer) even had a phone call from the
WIPO in Switzerland verifying his identity AND another potential challenger emailed
him asking for proof of his TM. He faxed this woman a copy of the TM certificate
to avoid having to shell out another $295 to WIPO to prove that he owned it (albeit
refunded when he was vindicated).
If these guys want to give money away, give it
to the Red Cross instead!
