I spoke with afilias a month ago and from what I gather it has always been the plan to challenge the names in March. In addition, afilias is going after all names - including all challenges for their bulk challenge. Apparently, it doesn't matter when a challenge took place or if it was successful or under what rules the challenge was won. If you don't have a solid tm behind a sunrise name you've won, consider it lost.
