As far as I know, ICANN has *always* used icann.org as its main address, as is proper
given that it's a noncommercial organization. And the latest proposals regarding
the status of .org call for it not to be restricted, but for it to be put in the
hands of a registry or sponsoring organization (the exact details not yet set, including
whether this would be a for-profit or not-for-profit organization) that would target
the marketing of the domain to the nonprofit sector, but not actually restrict who
could register as this would be impractical given the current unrestricted status.
