You could argue, from ICANN's point of view, that the slower .info is sorted, the
stronger their 'case' for a slow and cautious roll-out of any future significant
TLDsThis, in turn, plays into the hands of those in US business and government
who want to retain (indirect) control of the DNS : the last thing they want is an
uncontrollable expansion of TLDs which would (in the end) put ordinary consumers
in the driving seat because they would have so much choice
So the .info shambles
has been beneficial to ICANN's medium-term policies and it has been beneficial to
DoC and US control of the DNS aspect of the Internet...
Little wonder ICANN has
preferred to just sit back and watch the fiascos unfold!
