Basically it is a new platform based on XML language that will make it easier for cross product use---In a nutshell they are trying to standardize the internet so that you will be able to "talk" to your refrigerator, and your T.V all the while getting scores from a soccer game on your palm pilot, etc, etc.

I would try to explain it further, but sometimes a link is enough to do the trick..

P.S  Microsoft is smart.  If they tried to take over the DNS, the global governments would have them split up so fast it would make the record books....Microsoft goal all along (I believe) has been to be the #1 supplier of computer products.  Just like in the gold rush days the ones that made the biggest profits were the ones who manufactured the "gold pans", the " covered wagons", etc, etc.  A few years ago, this realization made me change the way I approach e-biz...So far so good...
