Subject: It's really up to DotInfoLink....if he/she wants to make it mandatory....

Then it's up to you, if you want to submit your .info TLD to their directory.  I would agree it would be difficult to get participation if it were made to be mandatory to link to their site with a banner.  My point about it being mandatory, is that I wouldn't have a problem doing it.

I don't think Reciprocal "Partner" link pages are the way to go.  It's a little hard to keep track of who is linking to whom, and whether or not they are keeping up their end of the bargain.  Also the nature of sites change.  Personally I would not like to find out I am linked to a porn/gambling site without my knowledge....

I think the spirit of this debate should be more geared towards how can we collectively elevate the awareness of the info TLD, not how someone should or should not run their operation.  My suggestion on that was to create a dot info only search engine.  How someone operated it was not really none of my concern.

I think when DotInfoLink asked for advice on the "mandatory" linkage, I think he/she was saying, "Hey, I can't do this for nothing"!  (Correct me if I am wrong).  My advice (on this matter) would be to create a "search box" script, that people can put on their sites.  DotInfoLink would get free referrals, and the owner of the dot info site would give its customers the benefit of a worthwhile SE.

Anyways,

Good Debate, but let's stay focused on the big picture.

Gregory
