Currently there is no way for the public at large
to readily identify medical information and medical service providers by TLD.
For example, the Fox Chase Cancer Center is FCCC.EDU (it is not a school or college).
The North Memorial Medical Center is NMMC.Com (it is not a commercial enterprise
- it is a non-profit hospital). Grand View Hospital is at HSH.Org.
There is no standard available. The need for this identification is so
strong that the country owning the ccTLD of .MD is currently charging more for name
registration than any other - and the public at large does not yet recognize .MD
on sight! It wouldn't hurt anyone to create a .MED TLD. It would
be a great boon to those members of the human race who have dedicated themselves
to helping their fellows through medicine, particularly those who work without
regard for profit or personal gain. Please give us .MED. We need
.MED. We've asked for it many times, and generally been ridiculed or dismissed
while the debate over .PORN and .XXX gets hours of discussion. Do the Internet,
and the world, a simple favor... vote for .MED. --Charlie Brooks
