Layman, my friend, allow me to  clarify something for you. What you are in fact suggesting is already being done and is nothing more than what is commonly called "3rd level domains" (ie: PARTS.auto.com, where "parts" is the 3rd level domain, "auto" is the second level domain, and "com" is the Top Level Domain). One can, of course, have 4th level, 5th level, and so on. BUT, and this is a BIG BUT (lol), the owner of the 2nd level domain (auto) "owns" the 3rd level domain, and 4th, 5th ....on down the line. It takes only seconds for the owner of a domain name to create a third level for it, it's done all the time. Some domain owners have started companies doing just that. Check out www.US.com. Understand? So, while in fact their is nothing "wrong" with your idea, it's already being done, and the owners of the respective 2nd level domain name (ie: us.com) are the ones controlling it, as it is nothing more than a subset of the 2nd level domain.

Regards,
