From what I gather most people
who have written in feel that new gTLD's should be approved by ICANN...Now what...How
to do it?? I believe in the "One domain...one registry policy"....Each registry
is responsible for their domain....Some may feel this isn't fair however I disagree...In
the early stages of new domains rolling out...integrity of the system is going to
be crucial...Therefore allow only one company per new domain to handle the influx...otherwise
I am afraid of massive duplication if there are multi-registries per domain....Assess
the situation each year....Now what type of criteria should be used to select a registry?
I feel that a registry should have strong support from the internet community...I
don't know if a vote from the community is necessary, but confidence from the consumer
will again be another crucial aspect of this process. I don't feel that
those that are already selling dot com's, net and org's should be chosen....If they
would like to then they must give up their rights to sell the dot com's...My reason
for this is to allow others to enter the market.....I think this is what you were
looking for Mr. Ambler as you definitely did a good job of putting "focus" back to
the issues at hand...I myself have written in support of .web, however if we do not
go further than that, well, we leave everything to chance....I am not sure if you
read my posting a few days ago, but what I suggested to ICANN is for them to contact
you with the particulars of running a testbed...who better than to give advice to
the pros and cons (after 5 years of running the .web registry)....That is all I have...I
too have submitted my answers to the 75 questions...and if you are wondering what
questions...hit your back button and READ...Good DAY!!!
