ICANN has made a call for certain issues to be addressed.  There have been Excellent opinions expressed on the forum here.

There is an Alternative which has Not been delved into.  So, here goes:

Since there is such disparity among the views, well, most seem to be for new gTLDs, while a few are so totally against the IOD concept.   Let's put a twist to it and see if the naysayers can knock this down:

For those who want the IOD data base wiped out, how about this compromise.

First, let's say that .web is selected and IOD is the Registry based on their Experience and Years of hard work.  Now, let's ask ICANN to allow .web to come on line in the ARoot.  Let's let IOD be the Registry and Whoever qualifies be the Registrars.

Second, let's ask ICANN that each TLD must meet the exact same Qualifications that IOD has for a New TLD Registry.  Let's ask ICANN to put EACH new TLD through these tests that IOD has done for years.

Let's Accept Nothing Less than that from a New TLD Registry.

This means that .web comes on line into the A Root with IOD the Registry.  This means that NO other New TLDs can come on line until They pass the Tests as IOD has.  This means New TLDS will be added every 6 years.  Let's ask ICANN to put up notice of the prospective TESTbed Registries and allow Preregistrations, you know like for .firm or .biz or whatever they choose.  Then, let it be TESTED for 6 years like IOD before coming into the A Root.

Hey, that would be fair right?  I think so.  I honestly believe EACH and EVERY New TLD should be put through the same TESTING parameters that IOD has gone through.  It can ONLY BENEFIT  the Internet Community and maintain Integrity and Stability.

Now, also, all you quibblers with .web can go out and grab you a name in whatever New TLDs are announced, knowing that you will 6 years to hold the name as the TLD is being tested.  Knowing that the database won't be dumped when that TLD has passed the rigorous testing period.

You can sleep at night comfortably since IOD set the Precedent.  All you need to do is wait approx 6 years.  Not a bad deal.  Really.
