Questions 17-18: To Promote Competition in Registration? |

Yes -- ICANN deserves kudos for breaking down the anti-competitive,
monopolistic stranglehold that NSI exercised over domain names. NSI's record of creating
new trademark privileges for business at the expense of small businesses and individuals
was abysmal. While the new ICANN UDRP still shows inadequate protections for individual
and small business' rights under national law, IMHO, it nevertheless curtailed NSI's
most glaring excesses. NSI's abuses can be further diminished by breaking their
current hegemony over the registry for COM and ORG domains.
